Context:

Dissemination of Science and development of scientific temper is the important part of the society. The target is to popularize the science through the effective and interactive means by which people could experience by doing experimentation which will help them to grow and therefore the society and the country. Again this kind of institution develops a bigger opportunity and develops the huge scope for the younger generation of the city to grow. Science Centre incorporates innovative ways to communicate science to enthuse, entertain, initiate, excite and bring the developments of science & technology to the doorstep of common people for prosperity, awareness, and improving the quality of life. The center attempts to enhance public understanding of science and spread scientific literacy.

Potential

Jamnagar City has some national and international famed educational institutes like Ayurvedic University, Medical college, Solarium, Dhanvantry Mandir, marine national park and the city has being doing tremendous economic growth , it is known today as the “oil city “because of the industries like Reliance, Essar which are world’s biggest industries and in terms of defense hub ,the city has Army, Navy and Airforce bases, these factors have helped to take off the development of the city and its surrounding, Science center of this scale will make up a mark to the progress of the city. Hence the city would be benefiting a totally a new environment of learning in the field of Science. Science center would be the integral part of the city development in area of science literacy and will form the pride and would be a City’s achievement.

Science Centre – an Understanding

Science Centers have contemporary, participatory, Informal Educational instrument through which every age group from a child to the adult will benefit by doing experiments and experiences, it is the place where they get awareness about Science, Any average person can come, participate and learn, need not have particular interest on subject or any background to understand the subject, hence this center is for everyone,   The aim of science center is to make entertainment a medium of education. Its motto is “Learning with fun”. The objective is to promote dissemination of knowledge in science and technology to our urban and rural communities and particularly to children. Its purpose is to popularize science by encouraging public participation and providing people a relax and refined place to learn and to recreate.

City Profile

Jamnagar, historically called Nawanagar or the new city, was one of the most important princely states of Saurashtra. The founder of the princely state of Jamnagar was the Jam Rawal, who descended on the northern coast of Kathiawar in 1535 A.D. Jamnagar is today known as 'Oil City' because of the mega refineries of Reliance Industries and Essar Oil Ltd. It was earlier known as 'Brass City', the city housing more than 5,000 large scale and 10,000 small scale units manufacturing brass items in and around the industrial estates of Shankar Tekari, Udhyognagar, M. P Shah Udhyognagar Nearly 200 tons of brass goods are produced in this area daily. Jamnagar is surrounded on 3 sides by the sea, so has many big and small ports like: Bedi, New Port, Rozi, Sikka, Jodia, Salaya, Pindara, Okha, Dwarka, etc.
Marine National Park, the only marine sanctuary of India is near Jamnagar - on the coral reef island of Pirotan. Jamnagar is well-known for its four marble Jain temples: Vardhman Shah's Temple, Raisi Shah's Temple, Sheth's Temple, and Vasupujya Swami's Temple. All were built between 1574 and 1622.

The Area occupied by structure and circulation shall not be greater than 50 % of program area. Judicious use of space and floor area is encouraged resulting in reduction of floor area without compromising on basic functionality.

The architectural objective is to explore the nature of institutional manifestation that catalyzes and houses such varied activities. Understanding the landform and existing built context would be crucial for arriving at a specific architectural response.
